Agape

10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10 NKJV)

A Google search will show you that Agape love is a selfless, unconditional, and sacrificial form of love that prioritizes the well-being of others without expecting anything in return. Rooted in Greek, it is considered the highest form of love—a conscious choice of the will to act in kindness, compassion, and commitment, rather than just a feeling.

This is the love that God showed to mankind when He sent Jesus and it is the kind of love He has for us; selfless, unconditional and sacrificial. God knows that we do not show love this way. The human condition is one that sets conditions upon everything, even love. Also, we use the word love loosely in our language, but God does not use agape loosely. No, He is very, very specific about the kind of love He has for us.

We must strive to show even a loose form of this love toward others and in doing so show them God’s love through us.

Reflect on: How you show love and just how unconditional that love is.
