Stir it Up

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (1 Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV)

In the life of a Christian we can come upon times when our faith wanes and we find ourselves distant from God. It can be during good times when we are not calling upon Him to help us, or it can be in bad times when we feel He is not helping. In any case the reason is us, not God. God does not pull His favor from us for reasons we, as humans, would pull favor from others. God plans are higher than our plans, His ways are greater. We simply draw away.

Paul knew this and encouraged Timothy to stir up his faith and the gift God had given him. We need to do the same. We need to be encouraged and encourage others in the faith. Both provide a stirring up of our own spirit of faith. Furthermore, we need to spend more time in prayer and in the Word so that the opportunity is there for God to both talk to us and for us to feel closer to Him.

Reflect on: A time, maybe now, where you have drawn away and what you need to do to stir up your faith.
