Some weeks, getting to the sabbath and consciously planning to take a break and focus fully upon God can feel really comforting and rewarding. Hard weeks that extend into the weekend and leave us spent make us remember just why God rested on the 7th day.
13 As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
14 For He [a]knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:13-14 NKJV)
God remembers we are dust and His plan for our week was two fold. For the sabbath to be a day of rest from our labors, a day He gives to us, and for it to be a day we give to Him. We, these days, do not necessarily treat the sabbath as anything much more than a day of rest, if that! We can even find ourselves gearing up for the coming week, which just brings next week’s concerns into this week.
We should take the sabbath more seriously for the day that God made for us. Whether you practice it being on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, our bodies and our minds need a day of rest. What better time to give back to God so that you are best rested and prepared for the coming week.
Reflect on: What your sabbath looks like. Are you making it a day of rest, reflection and resetting…focusing on God so He might focus on you.
