Pride

23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me. (John 14:23-24 ESV)

I have written often about the things life puts in our way and makes us concerned over that distracts us from God. The enemy, the world and our own pride do much to keep us from loving God and seeking His will in all we do. But there is that last one, pride, that is the one that gets us more often than not.

We think of pride is a very singular way, when in truth it has many fingers into our lives. Yes, it can be pride in the classical sense, but I believe more than that, it is about us speaking our own desires over God’s. We all want to do our own thing, go our own way and there is pride in that. We have lust we chase after that can be of the flesh, but can be lust for wealth, for possessions, this too is a form of pride. It says we can have what we want, when we want. Pride can manifest in many ways and there is no humble heart where there is pride.

Reflect on: How pride has its grubby little fingers in your life and where.
