When we read this scripture, especially once we are established in the faith, it seems hard to believe. We know that what we ask must be in God’s will for it to come to pass. But how do we know God’s will?

Well, part of that is prayer and reading scripture. These things will point us toward God’s will. The Spirit within too will guide us, but there is a more fundamental truth in a statement in a devotional I recently read made clear to me more about how God works.

“God made known in Jesus has given me everything I have ever asked for. Simply stated, God left no request unanswered…I have come to rely upon the truth that God will act generously to me and all who seek His face…even those times when I was totally unaware of that love and care.” (Norman Shawchuck)

Reflect on: The ways God has given you what you asked for even when you were unaware.
