Guide, Friend & Father

14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.15 No longer do I call you servants,[a] for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. (John 15:14-15 ESV)

We tend to elevate, as we should, Jesus based upon His divine status as part of the triune God. But least we forget, He too is friend to us. Spirit as Guide, Jesus as Friend (and Savior) and God as Father.

It can feel wrong to consider Jesus as a friend because He has done so much for us. But what is that but a friend? He even says so in our scripture. Yes, He was talking to the 12, but He meant that for you and I as well. When we truly embrace the Guide, Friend and Father roles of God our experience of Him becomes far more intimate. He is no longer this distant entity who we just pay homage to. He becomes those things in our lives and we embrace the love of God for us.

Reflect on: Your view of the Holy Spirit, Jesus and God the Father. Do you need to keep them elevated in divine status, but embrace them as Guide, Friend and Father?
