Unforgiven

23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24 ESV)

Forgiveness is something that can be both hard to ask for and hard to give. But we need to live to our faith and realize that forgiveness starts with Christ and must extend through us.

When we harbor an unforgiving spirit we create within us a wound that does not heal. It festers and the bitterness that it creates simply spills over into other aspects of life. We think we can compartmentalize it and keep it for this one thing or person, but we are wrong in this. Like an infection that is untreated it will permeate other parts of our lives, possibly taking it over completely. You may think I take this too far, but how can we expect to be forgiven if we do not forgive.

I have watched families that have become embittered because of unresolved conflict. There is nothing good that comes from it. I have seen friendships shattered and work situations turn viral because of bitterness and rivalry. I have also seen love and a humble heart turn these around.

Reflect on: Anyone one you need to forgive or any situation you need to let go of. Seek a humble heart.
