32 “For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God? (2 Samuel 22:32 ESV)
There is a song I really like by the artist Hardy called “A Rock” and today’s scripture reminds me of it and God’s place in my life. God was not always my Rock. While I have been a Christian for a very long time, there was a time in my life where I questioned everything. Many go through this. But what I can tell you is that He has become the ever-present foundation of my life, in effect my Rock.
I look back on those times where fear and anxiety ruled my life and shake my head. Yes, I still feel fear and anxiety from time to time, but I am always drawn back to my Rock. I shared with someone recently who was dealing with this in a work situation another scriptural excerpt, “if God is for us, what can man do to us?” That is a Rock of understanding that can keep us from being swayed emotionally.
We cannot let others or situations gain power over us and the way to keep this from happening is to have a firm foundation, a Rock to lean on.
Reflect on: Your rock. Is it something of this earth that may fade, or is it the eternal God?
