Highest and Best

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV)

I often ask those that work for me, “is what you are doing the highest and best use of your time.”

In many cases they are bogged down in small daily task, email, meetings or drive by’s (our term for people coming to ask for help). We always want to be helpful, but there are avenues for people to get support that allow us to manage the volume of support work the company puts on my department.

If they take a moment to look back over their day, they often realize that they spent all their time on the minutia and really did little work of true value. This can be true in our spiritual life as well. We fret about doing this and that but we do little of truly lasting value. In fact, many times we spend so much time on the minutia of life that we either totally miss or completely avoid the divine appointments God sends our way.

Reflect on: The highest and best use of your time, both personally and spiritually.
