How We Respond

27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. (Luke 6:27-28 ESV)

The rhetoric around hate seems to be much of what is driving society today. In a time when we speak about tolerance and acceptance, what we see more often than not is simply anger and hatred. We do not have patient debate, but we want to argue and speak over one another.

Can we not see that the enemy is rejoicing and prodding us on? Can we not see that the spiritual realm around us is at war for our very lives? Yes, humans are humans, and we can tend toward the nor in life. But there is also good in us that needs to be winning out over the hatred.

How we, as Christians, do this is to not give into the hate. Not to meet anger with anger, hatred with hatred. We must be better than this and show love and compassion even on those who curse us or abuse us. It is all about how we respond.

Reflect on: Your response to the anger and hatred around you.
