Down to go Up

12 Moses said to the Lord, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’ 13 Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.” (Exodus 33:12-13 ESV)

I think this interaction between Moses and the Lord is very interesting. Moses is effectively saying, “Look, I know you are saying to do this thing, but it is too big for one man who are you sending with me.” I think that is fair, however, we should not be surprised when God sets a task before us so large that only He can stand beside us to see it through. He creates God sized problems and task so that we do not think it is in our own power that we see ourselves through.

The scriptures are clear, Moses had doubts. Even though he had grown up in Pharaoh’s courts and had an Egyptian education he had to be brought down first before God built him into the man He wanted. Some times we too need to be brought down before God builds us up.

Reflect on: Times in your life where God may have broken you down before building you up.
