Grounded in Love

17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19 ESV)

Do you realize that God loves you unconditionally. That is 100%. There is nothing good nor bad you can do to escape that love. It is a mercy that God does not base His love upon our moral understanding. When scripture says “we are like dirty rags” it is spot on. Even at our finest most spiritual moments, we are but dirty rags. Let that sink in.

Now, let the love of God sink in. While that unconditional love is not a license to do as we like, it does cover a multitude of sins. It takes us dirty rags and washes us clean as snow. It removes the blemishes and our transgressions. And yes, that is God’s love for what else is Christ blood, but God’s love.

Thus, we should be grounded in this love so that our lives take on meaning beyond the here and now.

Reflect on: God’s love and how you cannot outrun it, or find a mountain high enough or ocean deep enough to get away from it.
