6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV)
What is the most precious thing in your life? Answer honestly. Does your faith first come to mind? Sadly, for most of us, it is not the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe our wife or husband, our children, grandchildren, maybe even something material.
Do not feel bad. This is the human condition. We put things before God many, many times. It is that inherent sinful nature that has us put things before our faith. But let me put it to you this way. What “things” in your life are eternal? Here is the crux of the matter. Only our faith will transfer with us to the next life. Nothing we have here on earth will remain.
Thus, we need to put a greater value on the precious nature of our faith.
Reflect on: All the things in your life and the value you place on them. Then consider your faith and exactly what it means to you.
