In Need

3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
    maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
    deliver them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalms 82:3-4 ESV)

This world can be very hard on people. At times there seems to be no escape for those who have been handed a hard life. People get down and out and struggle to recover. Where are we as God’s emissaries on earth to help them out?

We can provide a hand up or a hand out to those who are in need, but too often we turn a blind eye to those hurting around us. We tap in to our small group of friends and family and rarely look outward to others who are hurting.

Maybe we do not feel like we have the time or the resources, but both are rarely true. The hard truth is that we just do not want to take the time or expend our resources. We tend toward selfishness and not selflessness.

Reflect on: The last time you actually helped someone else in need.
