Vain Discussions

The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions. (1 Timothy 1:5-7 ESV)

The world, in many ways, has wandered away into vain discussions. We discuss and debate everything. We act more like children bickering than mature adults engaging in discourse. And the enemy stands by laughing.

Where is our charge of love? Where are our pure hearts, good consciences and sincere faith?

Instead of helping one another and doing what is right we want to debate our politics or our personal views of which we make confident assertions. Whether we are right or not is no longer the point as long as be are the loudest voice in the crowd.

Christ love is not about vain discussion, it is about loving one another and being strong in our faith, holding to scriptural truths and teachings. Our quiet love speaks volumes and often says more about Christ than our words. But our words need to speak Christ crucified and His salvation, always.

Reflect on: Fruitless discussions you may be having and how you might turn this into something more Christ like.
