Shipwreck

18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, (1 Timothy 1:18-19 ESV)

Listening to our conscience is not only a good thing, but is listening to the Holy Spirit in a believers life. This is why our scripture says “wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience.”

The latter part of the 19th verse is where our concern should also lie. Many have shipwrecked their faith by not listening to their conscience or the Holy Spirits nudging. This is when we decide our desires are more important than the faith we live and we go about willingly sinning.

When we practice listening to both our conscious and the Holy Spirit the enemy will flee from us and life, generally, will be easier. It is not that God removes everything that is a hinderance or a temptation, but that we live in the security of a good faith.

Reflect on: How might you be headed toward a shipwreck?
