2 Count it all joy, my brothers,[a] when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4 ESV)
It is very easy today to “count it all joy”, as my daughter had our second grandchild last night. So today is a very good day.
But I want to ask you to consider today’s scripture in its beginning and its ending. Can you count it all joy, and are you lacking in nothing?
This, day to day, can be a very difficult task, but a task we should take on gratefully. You see, our salvation gives us cause for great joy. In it, we are truly lacking in nothing! Jesus paid it all. We have only to live a faithful life and collect our reward. Things can come and go, but you can rest assured your salvation is secured.
Looking at that tiny bundle of joy last night gave me great pause to consider all I have. To know that in all of it, my greatest joy is in my family. They can be difficult at times. But they are always worth it as is the life Jesus gave me when He ransomed me from my sins.
I am lacking in nothing and I count it all joy.
Reflect on: Counting all of the joy in your life. Do you lack in anything? Ask God to supply any thing you might be lacking. He is a loving God who wishes nothing more than to give us our hearts desire if they align with His.
