Half-Measures

1 In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they ravaged the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. (1 Samuel 11:1 ESV)

Have you ever felt God’s push to go and do something specific, but instead of heeding that call you allowed others to take your place?

I did this. I felt God’s call upon my life to go into ministry at a young age. But I allowed the pressure of others and the world to not listen and go into business. God has blessed my life, but that nagging call never went away. Many, many years later I began to do ministry work but at a reduced level, adjacent to my business life.

God does not like half-measures. David’s half-measure lead him from being on the battle field to being seduced by a beautiful woman. When we employe half-measures with God the outcome is often half-baked. My work life has been blessed, but it has also been fraught with difficulties. In many ways I never felt comfortable in my work life and I still feel like I missed out on God’s plan.

Reflect on: Any half-measures you may be taking instead of following God’s plan for your life.
