Children of the Word

Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2:2-3 ESV)

My wife calls me a toddler. Normally I might take offense to this, but in this case she is right. She has to buy a gallon of milk multiple times during the week because there is almost nothing I like more than ice cold milk.

New believers need the pure spiritual milk that is the Word. But in reality we all need this pure spiritual milk. True, once we have become a bit more mature in our faith we should move on to the deeper concepts found there. But we should always long for the simple purity of the Word.

Maturity in our faith can only come by first absorbing the purity of the Word. Just like an infant it helps us grow, then as we do we want more and more. Like toddlers we have become mature enough to take on an expanded diet of greater knowledge. This is how children grow and we are Children of the Word.

Reflect on: How your faith is growing through your study of the Word.
