24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:24-25a ESV)
While this is not a life verse for me, it is one I try to keep close to my heart. That may seem odd, but in the course of life I have felt Paul’s words from this scripture often. This comes from Paul’s treatise on how, although, we want to do right we continue doing wrong. Paul felt this acutely and so do I.
Life has this way of drawing us away from God, when what we need most is to remain near Him. The further we get from the Source of Truth, the more Paul’s words come to heart. We can feel, deep within us, how the pulling away makes us feel even if we do not act upon that feeling. It’s like diving underwater without a scuba tank. Our breath only holds us for so long, then we have to return to the surface and breath again.
Reflect on: Do you need to return to the surface and breath God in again?
