Lingering

26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. (Hebrews q0:26-27 ESV)

For many Christian’s there is some lingering sin that we stubbornly do not fully renounce and put from our lives. Maybe it is anger, or lust, or some other thing that is so deeply seated in our personality makeup that we seem to not be able to let it go and heal.

Any sin that lingers in our lives is like a rotting carcass that we leave that simply rots and stinks up the whole area. It may not be easy or savory to deal with what has died to us, but that is what we are called to do. If the sin is one that has become habit, then we must offset that habit with something that is good and wholesome and new so that we can displace the habit.

As our scripture says, “sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,”

Reflect on: What lingers in your life that you need to displace.
