Double Down

1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? (Romans 6:1-2 ESV)

Two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s an old saying but a good one. We cannot continue to do wrong and expect right things to happen. This is both a practical truth and a spiritual truth as well. Paul belabored this point in Romans, because some people of that time thought, “well, if I sin more then grace is shown even more from my acts.” What backward thinking. But is it not the same today?

Often we see people taking a wrong stance or doing something that is obviously wrong, yet they double down and try to force others to see it is right. This, sadly, is a bit of a hallmark of our current society. It is as if yelling louder about the sky being green will make it less blue. It is trying to force our will upon others. Even as Christians we need to be careful of this. Yes, we need to take a Christ like view of the world, but one that focuses upon love.

Reflect on: What are you possibly doubling down on that might not be exactly right?
