I Turned Not Backward

4 The Lord God has given me
    the tongue of those who are taught,
that I may know how to sustain with a word
    him who is weary.
Morning by morning he awakens;
    he awakens my ear
    to hear as those who are taught.
The Lord God has opened my ear,
    and I was not rebellious;
    I turned not backward. (Isaiah 50:4-5 ESV)

Listening, being willing to be taught and doing God’s will must be in the forefront of our mind at all times. The world and the enemy seek to draw us away and to distract us. They also work to make us deaf to those around us who simply need a good word from God.

We all have a rebellious nature. We stay true to the path and then backslide when all is going well and we get distracted, when we turn backward. The desire to do God’s will must be something we contend with every moment of every day. From the time we awake to the time we lay down to sleep.

The concept in today’s scripture of allowing God to open our ears to hear “those who are taught”, listening to Godly counsel may point all the way to modern times. There are so many who spend their days listening to podcast or audiobooks, that this part of scripture may have prophesied about this. In any regard, we should be listening to the right things.

Obedience means doing all of the above and not turning backward (backsliding).
