8 “‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me; (Matthew 16:8 ESV)
If we search ourselves, do our actions and words match our faith? That which should be in our hearts?
Maybe it does, let’s say 75% of the time, 85%, 95%. Do we believe God was talking about percentages or half-measures? I believe we all know the answer to that question. No, our hearts are far from God often even when we are honoring Him with our lips. Our outward appearance does not match who we truly are inwardly. It’s called lip service.
We need to work daily on the inward man so that our faith matches our words and actions. To build the inner man is to honor God and to build a strong faith life where our hearts are close to God. But the building of the inner man takes time and effort that we would normally prefer giving to other things like work, relationships or hobbies.
Can we not see that what we build internally we build for eternity?
