24 I say, “The Lord is my portion,
therefore I will put my hope in him.”
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the person who seeks him.
26 It is good to wait quietly
for salvation from the Lord.
Waiting quietly. I think many would tell you that I am not necessarily good at waiting either patiently or quietly. My life tends to be about deadlines and reaction to what is happening today. So the very trait that God says I need, and I do not have, is the very trait that makes me good at my job. For the most part. It can also mean that because I am so driven, I drive others around me harder than I should.
We all have many traits that make us who we are. Each of these God uses to His advantage. Even in my struggle between impatience and waiting quietly, God uses this. Really, He waste nothing. We may, but He does not.
The first of this scripture can help us in how we live and how we interact. “The Lord is my portion.” If we practice this all encompassing word from God we can find peace in this world. We can take what we have or do not have as a sign that this is where God wants us at this moment and this very time in our lives. This takes the pressure off striving and impatience.
When the Lord is your portion, all else falls into place.
