Overcoming Lethargy

Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. (Galatians 6:9 ESV)

I did not sleep well last night and I am tired as I write this today. It is not always easy to get up and be fresh enough to write this daily devotional. However, I am driven to do so and know if I missed a day how I would feel. This has become a daily habit for me and more importantly, it has become and integral part of my ministry and my life. It sets the tone for my day and, I hope in some small way, yours.

Life can wear us down and make us tired. The world and the enemy transpire to work against us and drag us down as well. Simple things, like a little loss of sleep, can be big factors in exactly how our day goes. This is why we must fuel up and overcome our lethargy.

Fueling up may require a few things. Physical energy is important, so seeking to fuel our bodies properly so that we have the energy we need is important. This may included diet, exercise or other activities we need to work on improving ourselves daily so our minds and bodies stay sharp. Furthermore, we need to fuel our mind and our spirit with daily inclusion of scripture and prayer. This fuels our intimacy with God and opens pathways we need to fulfill His plan for our lives. It creates a closeness that is hard to find any other way.

Ultimately, we just cannot allow ourselves to give up. If we can do this we will reap at the proper time of God’s great gift and promises and others may reap from the fruit we produce.
