25 Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
    and one who waters will himself be watered. (Proverbs 11:25 ESV)

There is nothing better than building up another. When we exercise our ability to encourage or water another, we too are watered in the process. Now, both of us may grow.

In the face of difficult times, I have found that my best outlet is to assist someone else. By taking the focus off of myself and on to others I gain perspective. Life does not seem so difficult and I realize that I am not alone in my troubles.

Building others up is also a favorite effort I try to take on daily. People are in need of encouragement and a kind word. They need to feel special and we need to make sure that when we give our attention, it is fully. This is so hard in our culture today where everything vies for our attention. It can be immeasurable the impact we have on another when we simply give of our total attention.

All of this watering of others provides a boost to our lives. We feel energized and humbled at the same time. Our encouragement lifts our spirits as it lifts those around us. We are served by serving others.

And the world is better for it.
