Spiritual Warfare

5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows. (Psalm 23:5 ESV)

This comes from my morning Intouch devotion, “We feast to challenge the enemy’s lies. In this way, feasting—slowing down to savor God’s gifts and remember His faithfulness—is an act of spiritual warfare. To feast is to trust in the Lord.”

What a perfect way to look and and remember God’s faithfulness; To feast is to trust in the Lord. Doing so is an act of spiritual warfare.

The scripture here is telling us to let the Lord fight the fight, we are to rest in His presence while He does battle. To be honest, we are no match for the spiritual realm. Even though Jesus tells us we have the power, we are weak humans. We struggle to wield what little power we have, standing against the enemy’s hoard requires backup. Air cover as I like to call it. But in sitting down to the prepared feast is a form of our own spiritual warfare as we trust fully in the One who saved us already.

Our scripture today also tells us that during such times, God will anoint us and our cups will overflow. During the battle it rarely seems so, but God is giving us a glimpse of just what He pours out into our lives when He wages war for us.
