Go

1 Now the Lord said[a] to Abram, “Go from your country[b] and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. (Genesis 12:1 ESV)

God’s command for Abram to “Go” was emphatic. It was not a suggestion, it was a command. Now this was a time when scripture tells us that God was much more direct with His children. Today, it is safe to say that we much interpret God’s still small voice as best we can through prayer and scriptural truths.

But picture this; God would pretty much have to appear to us and prove that He was actually God to impart any command. Anything short of this and we would question our our sanity and our perceptions of what we have seen and heard. And let’s say that we were convinced that it was God and not our mind playing tricks on us. Would we go? Would we be willing to walk away from all we have, all we know, all our family and friends?

Some do. Those who take up the call to being missionaries in far away places. My daughter did for a time and it was hard for us all.

And what of the urgency? Could we immediately walk away or would we need a year or so to get everything in order?

You see, today, it is difficult for us to leave home even for a day to make it to church much less completely uproot ourselves. Oh, we all have a thousand reasons to delay or not go, but what is more important, those reasons or Gods emphatic “Go”? And what if that “Go” was not the missionary field but something closer to home God is calling you to? Are you listening?
