Busy and Distracted

“You shall have no other gods before[a] me. (Exodus 20:3 ESV)

This may seem like one of the most simple of requirements God has for us in our faith walk. I doubt any who profess Christ would believe they put any god before Him. But are we taking this simple line of scripture too lightly?

I have written many times about how we often put our busy schedules before everything else. How many spend hours consuming social media, but find it hard to spend an hour in church each week? How many of us read for pleasure, yet our Bibles sit with dust upon them, unopened for weeks, months or years?

The enemy knows that he only needs to keep us distracted, and a distracted people we are!

Yesterday is a good example for me. While I put time aside in the morning to read scripture and write my devotional, my day ended up so busy I did not take a moment aside for God the rest of the day. Well, you may say, this is a little thing, you did take time in the morning.

One time a day is not enough my friend. Not by any measure, especially God’s.

Not taking time throughout our days to bring God to mind, read a little more scripture and reset is opening the door for the enemy. It is far too easy for us to allow the simple act of just being busy and distracted to push God from our minds. In doing so we are, in essence, worshiping another god.
