Immediate

20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. (Matthew 4:20 ESV)

Consider the immediacy of what the first disciples did in our scripture today. We have to read this and think that there must have been more conversation around what Christ was asking them to do. I mean, who just drops everything when some wandering guy ask them to do so!? Well, I expect that the souls within them were crying out about just who this man really was. Additionally, if we take this at face value we see what a sacrifice they were making. They were immediately leaving family, their jobs, their complete way of life. Who of us would be prepared to do this today?

Furthermore, what is displayed here is the immediacy we should feel for Christ. Our faith should be a burning thing, not something that simply smolders within us. God did not make us to be a people who wait around to see what happens before we take up His banner and His cause. We have too many smoldering Christians out there today. Too may who just want to sit and soak. People who are the 20% part of the 80/20 rule. There is nothing immediate in their lives. If I am calling some of you out, then good! You should feel more immediacy in your lives regarding your faith. Both how you are living it out internally and how you are living it out externally. It was not meant to be a fire that simply warm you from within, but a raging conflagration that burns brightly.
