13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct,
and perverse speech. (Proverbs 8:13 CSB)
Let’s consider for a moment the amount of pride and arrogance that exist in the world today. Oh, you may say that I am being overly critical and making a blanket statement about pride and arrogance. But am I?
You see, the fact that the world is doing everything in its power to forget and erase God would tell a different tale. And before you check out on this devotional as a rant, hear me out. I count myself in the prideful and arrogant.
There have been whole blocks of time in my life where I was very prideful and arrogant. I remember when I was young and tasting my first success in business that I thought too highly of myself. Many young men do. We are ten feet tall and bulletproof in our youth. But this has given way to the maturity of age and not a little sanding off of my rough edges by God.
I like to think that today I am a more humble and God fearing man. I have spent enough time on this planet to see what pride and arrogance leads to. More importantly, God has given me eyes to see and ears to hear what He has to say about a great many things. I see too that wisdom and knowledge are given freely to those who ask Him with a humble nature.
I guess the best way to put it is that pride and arrogance do not get in the way as much these days as they once did for me. I now know my limitations and the fact that God has no limitations and that through Him all things are possible.
