28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and she asked Balaam, “What have I done to you that you have beaten me these three times?” (Numbers 22:28 CSB)
Take a moment and read this whole account that can be found in Numbers 22:26-32. Balaam was being opposed by an angel of the Lord that only the donkey could see. He was doing evil in the Lord’s eyes and used this very unique way to get Balaam’s attention.
We read about these Old Testament accounts of the incredible happening and wonder how we might respond today. Donkey’s speaking, rivers parting, columns of smoke and fire to follow, burning bushes. We may be in a time where more of these things need to happen to get our attention. The problem is that today graphics have gotten so good we would immediately begin looking for the hidden projector.
I am not sure I wish that God would speak through one of my dogs. I am afraid that I would go immediately commit myself. God gets our attention in more subtle ways today. We must look harder for the donkeys speaking in our lives, because they are there if we will only be more observant.
The other problem is that the world speaks so much more loudly today that it and the enemy drown out God’s still small voice. We rarely take a moment to even breathe a prayer, much less find the solitude to actually wait and listen for the Lord.
So, could it be that your donkey is speaking today and you are just not listening? Or maybe you are just to distracted to even recognize them speaking into your life. We need to look around us and see exactly what in our lives God does not desire and how He is speaking His will into our life and ask, are we even listening?
