18 Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth. (1 John 3:18 CSB)
Love in our action and truth must be evident in our faith life. People can see through an insincere display of loving them. Thus, truth in our feelings and actions must be in synch.
This is true with much in life. Our actions must speak our truth and truth must be in our actions. Without this we are simply deceivers and the love of God is not in us.
This does not mean that we will not have times when we must be hard with others. In business settings we may have to be stern and our expectations may need to be set high. But this does not mean that we must be harsh, without compromise or mean about what we do. The same can be said for dealing with our family, especially children. When love is evident in our action and in truth we can easily display the love of God in all we do.
I may write about truth and love often but it is only because I see these things fading away. Everyone has only eyes for themselves. Entitlement is rampant and people feel like there are no consequences for their actions. We are living in a time where, often, the needs of the individual wants to outweigh the needs of the multitudes. But when we turn this around and concern ourselves with the needs of the multitudes in love and truth and we manifest God in others lives.
Even when our truth may seem harsh, our actions in love can move mountains.
