10 Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10a NIV)
In this first line of this verse God give us a recipe for how we need to face each day.
“Be” – God calls us to be who He made us to be and to put aside all else. We are not to go on sinning, but to be transformed by the Spirit.
“Be still” – God calls us to rest in Him. He desires not our distraction or our distress, but our peace and security in Him. Even when times do not reflect peace or security, ours is wholly in God.
“Be still, and know” – God want us to realize that He is ever thinking of us and has our best interest foremost in His plan for our lives. He does not want us to hope for this, He wants us to be confident in the knowledge.
“Be still and know that I Am” – The great I AM is both beginning and end. He is alpha and omega. In Him and through Him everything that was, is and will be is under His control. There is nothing that escapes His view or is outside of His grasp.
“Be still and know that I am God” – He is calling us to know that He is sovereign over our lives. His sealed us with the sacrifice of Christ and made us one with Him again. It gave us the free gift of salvation and the assurance of eternity. In Him everything is perfected.
