3 When I kept silent, my bones became brittle
from my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was drained[a]
as in the summer’s heat.Selah
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not conceal my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Have you ever kept something to yourself for a long time? Something that was concerning to you and seemed to always be in the background of your life? Something that had a power over you that you could not seem to beat?
Our scripture today is about keeping things bottled up and not letting the Spirit work on our behalf. When we keep secrets in silence God’s hand will be heavy upon us. Sin drains our strength like this current oppressive Texas summer heat. Like that heat it makes us lethargic and allows the enemy to burden the mind with all form of negative thoughts, it makes us powerless.
But when we acknowledge our sins and do not keep them bottled up, asking for forgiveness and guidance, God immediately lightens our load. He understands and will take the burden from us, freeing our minds and pushing the enemy away.
We have to remember that with God we have power over our sin and the enemy’s advances. We are not powerless in the face of that which we hide and burdens us. We have power in Christ name if we will just call upon Him. But these things must see the light of day wher the power of the Son can burn them away.
