Gaining Your Attention

19 We also have the prophetic word strongly confirmed, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (2 Peter 1:19 CSB)

There is so much thrust at us daily from personal concerns, to family concerns, business demands and simply the act of getting by. But we also add to that many other distractions that tug against our attention. The world is truly a busy place.

Within all of this we may strive to find little moments for God, where we focus and pay attention to His guidance. But don’t we have that backward? Shouldn’t we pay more attention to God than to the world around us? How can we hope to be a lamp shining in a dark place if we do not.

Now, I know, I write on this a lot! But you all have the attention span of a Gold Fish. Yes, I do as well. I think our phones have lead to this inability to focus for more than a few seconds on something. They have gone from being tools to being our window to look out, a distraction from the busyness and responsibilities.

But we have a prophetic word strongly confirmed that will give way to the morning star rising in others hearts. But how can this happen if we are so distracted that we do nothing to further that message? If we allow the enemy to keep us distracted we are of little use to our Lord. I am simply drawing your attention to it.
