Living and Active

12 For the word of God is living and active… It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12a..c)

Yesterday, we saw what there is much to be gained from what was written long ago. But ancient words on a page are only that. Scripture, however, is the living and active word of God. This scripture goes on to say that it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. This is because God is active within the words of scripture through the Spirit within us.

Thus, when we read scripture we should do so with expectation. Expectation that something will happen from what we read. These are not dead, ancient words on a page. They have life and power to impact our lives, if we will but let them.

The latter part of our scripture also tells us that we will be convicted by these words. There will be things we find that we may not like. Things that cause guilt or remorse regarding how we have thought, acted or what we have said. This too is the Spirit convicting us and we can know that there is a loving God who wants nothing more than we turn from our ways and follow His word.

Having a book to go to that is living and active in our lives brings much wisdom.
