16 All Scripture is inspired by God[a] and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. ( 2 Timothy 3:16-17 CSB)
I used to be a fairly voracious reader. However, these days I struggle to find anything to read that I find of great worth. It is not that writers have gotten bad, but that my taste have changed significantly and much of what I see out there is derivative.
It is hard in a world of having so much at our fingertips to find anything unique. To a great extent I would have to admit that what I write here is as well. Possibly the difference is that what is here comes from scripture which is profitable for many things as our passage today denotes.
This is probably why I spend more time today with either scripture or books written long ago. Many of these were the basis or origin where much of what’s written today is taken. There is truly nothing new under the sun.
But utilizing scripture as my basis, and the Spirit as my guide, I strive to provide some new insight into our lives. Scripture is the one thing you can go to and find new meaning in every reading. This is because the Spirit is revealing new things to us constantly. Thus, rereading a familiar passage can unlock new avenues of thought, new ways to look at ourselves and the world around us. We can gain much new from the old.
