11 See, we count as blessed those who have endured.[a] You have heard of Job’s endurance and have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about—the Lord is compassionate and merciful. (James 5:11 CSB)
Seeing beyond our current state and thinking back to all of the blessings God has bestowed upon us can help us endure current momentary troubles.
Nothing last forever. Neither good things or bad things. Elsewhere scripture tells us that the rain falls upon the righteous and the evil. There is simply a balance in life that God has set up to make sure all things happen in a season or for a reason.
When we are beset it is easy to be myopic and only focus on what is happens right in front of us. This is where we have to become ever more myopic and stare at the tips of our shoes as we put one foot in front of the other to make it through.
Additionally, when things seem mountainous we have to consider the smaller hills in front to get over first. Looking at the mountain range and the seemingly miles we must transverse simply adds to our distress.
We can only see so far, we must learn to trust God for the remainder of the journey.
