8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 CSB)
There is little consistency in life. People, possessions and positions all change. In fact, the only constant IS change. But we can have faith in the fact that our God never changes.
Consistency is what humans seek and, in fact what often drives us. This is because consistency becomes habit, and we are creatures of habit. So many good books have been written about the power habits have in our lives. This is because we desire things that we know. Even bad habits become something we take comfort in and this is why habits are so hard to break.
We can call this routine, if you like. The human psyche runs off of routine more than anything else. I can attest to this, because what I am doing right now is both a habit and a routine for me. I am writing this devotional while having my first morning cup of coffee. There is comfort in this consistency for me. I look forward to waking up and writing these and sipping my coffee. It begins my morning in a way that helps me prepare for the day ahead. It focuses me. And if something gets in the way of this morning routine I feel very off base.
When consistency in life breaks down our security can be shaken. We can become anxious and feel like life is spinning out of control. This is the very time we need to seek the one consistency in life that never changes. This is where Christ becomes our rock and our comfort.
