11 The people here were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, since they received the word with eagerness and examined[a] the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. (Acts 17:11 CSB)
Do you receive the Word with eagerness? Do you examine what you read or hear?
Many today seem to listen to sermons or read scripture passively. Not interacting with it but listening as if it were radio background noise. When we do this, without actively participating in what we are hearing or reading, we are probably gaining little from it.
Worship, or study has to be an active act. When we approach it in a passive manner we will gain little. The scripture says in various ways and in different places that we are to examine what we read and hear. Not just let it wash over us, but swim in and drink deeply of the living water being provided.
The scriptures are not just some collection of stories meant to entertain. They have life and deep meaning that can be applied to our lives. How can we hope to improve our walk if we do not tread the various paths of scripture meant to edify and provide wisdom? These things we must receive as our scripture says. But to receive we must seek, actively.
Do not let your faith life be a thing of passive indifference. Make it an active seeking for the wealth of wisdom contained for every aspect of your life.
