Secret Counsel

14 The secret counsel of the Lord
is for those who fear him,
and he reveals his covenant to them. (Psalm 25:14 CSB)

Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who could provide us secret counsel regarding the things of life were were unsure about. Someone who could give us some comfort regarding the aspects of life we cannot see clearly. Life can truly come at us sideways and out of the blue and be hard to understand.

The secret counsel of the Lord is provided to believers in the form of the indwelling of the Spirit. Many do not clearly understand this and to be sure it is a mystery. But it is a mystery that we can believe in and count on. Furthermore, it is a comfort that while subtle can provide a peace that surpasses understanding.

The Spirit provides us a level of understanding regarding scripture as well. At times pointing us in a direction that we were not even considering. At other times providing insight into God’s nature at a moment when we need that insight the most.

And the latter part of our scripture bears great importance as well. Note that it says “those who fear him.” This does not say “those who are afraid of him.” Because a healthy fear is not about being afraid. It is about respect and reverence and it reveals His covenant with us which is a covenant of love and promises.
