31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31-32)
If you continue in my word….the truth will make you free.
Gaining power over our sinful nature does not come of our own accord. No, it requires spiritual help. First, through the salvation of Christ. Second, through the indwelling of the Spirit. Third, through continuing in The Word.
When we continue in The Word we are setting our minds to scripture and the guidance of the Spirit. Yes, the world and the enemy will continue to make this difficult. Our human sinful nature will also continue to want to manifest. But when we continue in Christ we are giving over our ways to His ways. We are giving up our desires for His desires.
To continue in this way is to give in to peace and truth. It is looking at the world in a totally different way, not through our eyes but through Christ eyes. To also look at ourselves in the same way, with the love of Christ and not our own critical expectations.
Thus, continuing in this way provides us a greater freedom than we once had. It provide us the freedom and knowledge that this new way is far greater than our old way. That this new path leads to eternity and allows us to be truly free.
