1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1 CSB)
There is a beginning to every story. Most all religions have a creation story of some sort. And, of course, we have many other scientific and not so scientific theories about how everything came into being.
The scriptural story of how God created everything in seven days gets hotly debated. However, I expect our understanding of time and God’s is vastly different. God could have spoken everything into being in just a moment. God is God and we cannot fully understand Him or His ways.
Regardless, He wanted it known how everything came into being. In fact we have the whole of the Old Testament to “set the stage” for the New Testament and Christ coming. We needed to understand much before we got to Christ being a part of our lives and why His sacrifice was necessary.
While the backstories of our lives may not always be something we wish to either remember or recount, they are important. What has happened to us throughout our lives have molded us into what we are. Even if that is a difficult story, our lives in Christ are marked in different ways based upon our past. Changes to a difficult past through Christ are invaluable for others to hear.
Our origin story is important to our testimony so that people gain the benefit of knowing just how much Christ did for us. It too should show just how much Christ means to us.
