15 But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:15 CSB)
The church is the pillar and foundation of the truth. It retains this description because it should be housing and preaching scripture purely. However, we see many churches bowing to social norms and pressures. This cannot be.
If the church begins to look like the world, where in the world do people go for actual truth.
Now I know, many have been church hurt over the years. Many have been witness to the hypocrisy and failures within the church. Many have been shunned because they were of the world while desiring to find a way out. There is one good reason for all of this.
The church is filled with fallen and sinful people.
While the church has to be the pillar and foundation of our faith, we have to accept that it too is filled with flawed humans. It is only when we see the church as a place for all us flawed humans to gather with God and work on this together.
Do not let a bad experience with flawed people in a church turn you off to church completely. There is so much value in the faithful coming together to worship, pray and learn. We must, as a church body, hold one another accountable so that we treat the underlying issues of humanity both inside and out. In this we can truly fulfill this scripture and retain the role of pillar and foundation.
