Make the Way Known

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us;
may he make his face shine upon usSelah
so that your way may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations. (Psalm 67:1-2 CSB)

I don’t know about you, but I come to the end of most weeks completely exhausted. I know my wife does too. Part of that is our age, but a much of it is that we give a lot to our jobs. Especially now that we are empty nesters, we tend to spend more time simply working.

In this we both strive to show a measure of God’s love and blessing through our work lives. While not always perfect at this, we try very hard to be ambassadors in His service through our service to others. I believe God has blessed us for doing so.

Now let me say, my wife is far better at this than I. She is a kind and loving person by nature. I, on the other hand, am a big, often gruff, guy who has to truly work at what is not his nature. But God is changing me day by day (except when I am driving, I have a lot of work to do there). But my work life has continually improved as I seek to serve others more than serving myself.

Our actions should be striving “so that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.” Yes, many work only for themselves. This, I believe, is the curse of the actually the successful. It is easy to forget God when everything goes your way. But, also, I see so many of these people who end up very unhappy. Wealthy, yes, but unhappy.

If we but strive to make the way known on earth, we can be sure we are moving in the right direction.
