¹⁴ The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:14 CSB)

A few younger people I know are trying to buy their first home. At a time when the economy and housing market is not conducive to doing so. But I totally get it, it is many peoples dream to own their own home and lets face it, paying rent is just throwing money away for the most part.

I well remember when we bought our first home. Well, our home, as we are still in it. We were soooo young and even in a much better market coming up with the down payment was hard. In fact we got help from our parents to make it happen. But we did, and these many, many years later our little home has served us very well indeed.

We have a down payment for our spiritual inheritance as well. Until redemption and our reward in heaven, the Holy Spirit is our down payment. The flip of it though is that God has paid two enormous down payments for our paltry lives. It is not we who are paying anything for our heavenly home. God already paid for our sins through Christ sacrifice. Then He gave us the Holy Spirit, to the praise of His glory!

My friends, we have been well bought and paid for two times over. Once through salvation and once through the indwelling of the Spirit. And we should never forget the high price that was paid.
