Yoke & Burden

28 “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take up my yoke and learn from me,because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 CSB)

I am not sure if it is the pollen in the air right now (which is a lot), or that work has been especially hectic….but I am tired. I mean bone tired.

However, I know that my body will receive the rest it needs. My mind on the other hand does not shut down while I sleep like my body. So I can wake up tired because my slumber is restless due to a restless mind.

Then there is my soul.

But the soul can remain light even when the body and mind are weary.

And with a lightened soul, the mind and body take less of a toll upon how we feel. But how do we get to this lightness of soul?

We take up Christ yoke.

Wait, that sounds like more of a burden, not less! But the burden Christ speaks of is our sinful nature and the rest is His salvation. Thus, when we take on Christ yoke, He has already taken on the heavier burden of our sin and washed us of it. In this new lightness of being we have come into His rest, His peace and His protection. Nothing of this world, no burden no matter how heavy, can separate us from Christ love, salvation and welcome into eternity.

So, yes, His yoke is easy and His burden light.
