3 Though an army deploys against me,
my heart will not be afraid;
though a war breaks out against me,
I will still be confident. (Psalm 27:3 CSB)
Have you ever felt like it was you against the world? I know I sure have.
My confidence was shaken and I found myself in a pit of despair. In fact I fight this feeling often.
Confidence is one of those things that has to be cultivated and tended. It seems that some people just have this overwhelming confidence born of success or simple will power. I will tell you that these people too suffer from crushing despair and anxiety at times. They are just very good at hiding it.
To remain confident we must simply look at our known outcome. Elsewhere in scripture it says, “if God is with me, what can man do to me?” Well, we feel like others can and do impact our lives deeply. This is because we are putting too much faith in ourselves and their good will. Both of which may fail us. We are giving them power over us, or we are giving circumstance power over us.
But God never fails us. He is there no matter what and it is in this we can have a faith that makes us very confident. He says my “My grace is sufficient for you.” We then have a choice; believe and accept that or run in fear from the world.
God wants us active. He wants us doing good in this world. When we do this, thinking less of our selves and more of others, our confidence soars.
